The Legacy of King Tubby & the Dub Revolution 🎛️

In the 1970sKing Tubby changed music forever. Starting as a radio repair technician, he built and modified sound systems that defined Jamaica’s dancehall scene. But his biggest impact came in the studio—where he transformed mixing into an art form, pioneering dub as a genre.

Tubby’s genius lay in remixing existing tracks, stripping them down, and adding deep echoes, reverb slams, and thunderous bass to create new, immersive soundscapes. His work influenced Lee "Scratch" Perry, Scientist, Mad Professor, and generations of producers worldwide.

One of the most iconic dub effects—the spring reverb tank slam—was a signature of Tubby’s mixes. By physically hitting, shaking, or plucking the springs inside a King Tubby-modified spring reverb, engineers could create a metallic, explosive thunder sound that became a dub essential.
